March 2026 Newsletter and Upcoming Events

Have you done any spring travel? I went to Brussels with friends and had a great time. We stayed in an Airbnb in a walkable neighborhood with shops and restaurants. The food was fresh and delicious, and the people were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a day trip to Bruges. It was a chilly day, but the sights were beautiful. Works in Progress
I am hard at work on book #3 in the Harrington House B&B series. I’m about 57,000 words in, so all the pieces and loose ends are starting to come together. For me, it's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle making sure all the pieces fit and make sense.
Molly Harrington’s Aunt Vanessa finds her husband murdered. Here is a short blurb I’ve been playing with.
A small‑town murder, a vanished flash drive, and a detective forced into the shadows collide in this tense, twist‑driven mystery. When Vanessa Bennet finds her husband shot in his study and his office torn apart, the investigation splinters—Detective Tony Shannon is pushed off the case just as financial secrets, encrypted files, and a trail of quiet withdrawals suggest Robert Bennet was caught in something far more dangerous than domestic drama. As Detective Beck chases the obvious suspects, Molly Harrington follows the money, the watchers, and the whispers, uncovering a web of hidden loyalties and buried motives. With a killer closing in and a single encrypted clue at the center of it all, the truth may cost more than anyone is prepared to pay.
I don’t have a working title yet, so if you have any ideas, let me know!
I’ve also started a rough sketch beginning for Mariposa Café #5, which I’ll work on after I finish the B&B book #3.
Book Recommendations and News

Hot Greek Summer is on pre-order. Shirley Goldberg is in my writer’s group, and her latest middle-aged romance will be published soon. Hot Greek Summer is a fun new beginning, summer romance set on the hot beaches of Crete. I love a good travel romance!
Here’s the link: HOT GREEK SUMMER - Kindle edition by Goldberg, Shirley. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.
Here’s the blurb:
Widow Cassie Merrill never believed in exotic trips as a cure-all for grief. But four years after her husband “leaves involuntarily,” a vacation to Crete with her best friend Bea seems like the perfect antidote.
At the beach, Bea––always a sucker for a good head of hair––forms an immediate attachment to a local hottie. She then pairs the reluctant Cassie with his tagalong cousin Stavros as a fourth for a too-cozy dinner.
Not interested at first, Cassie knows that until she pushes past her old memories and fulfills the vow made to her husband, she will never move forward. Fighting FOMO––Fear of Moving On––she honors her pheromones and accepts Stavros’ invitation to have lunch at his favorite beach, Legaria, drink a little retsina and swim in the Mediterranean.
Despite his charming facade, Stavros has a case of the post-divorce blues he can’t shake, and a young son with problems. Cassie’s attention is a balm for his spirit and soul, and for the first time in a long time, Stavros fears for his heart.
Cassie battles her rising panic. With Stavros’ kindness and energy and bossy yet loyal Bea egging her on to let go of the past, Cassie just might find romance again. Will their love affair last longer than one Hot Greek Summer?
The Seven Gates of Guinee - A Crescent City Mystery – Book #3 – by Martha Reed

Book 3 picks up shortly after Up Jumped the Devil ends. Jane Byrne and Gigi Pascoe have started their PI Agency and have their first case that ties back to the disappearance of four university students in 1977. Martha seamlessly weaves together the connections between the past and the present. A page-turner to the very end.
Here’s the link: Amazon.com: The Seven Gates of Guinee: A Crescent City New Orleans Mystery eBook : Reed, Martha: Kindle Store
Here's the blurb:
Ignoring dire supernatural warnings, four university students vanished in 1977 while cosplaying the Intrepid Quest fantasy board game. The avid gamers were last seen performing bogus Voodoo rituals around NOLA’s historic French Quarter at rumored red magic portal sites.
Jane Byrne, St. Louis Cemetery No. 1’s Chief Security Officer, and Gigi Pascoe, a transgender sleuth, are feeling hopeful and empowered as they launch their new private investigative agency. Facing a crucial deadline, a desperate client hires them seeking to mark ‘Cold Case Closed’ on the baffling forty-year-old mystery.
Aided by authentic NOLA Voodoo Queen Aunt Babette Broussard and Cleo Duchamp, her streetwise Gen Z protégé, the P.I. agency team doggedly unpacks the many intricately layered secrets and stonewalled investigative leads to expose a lethal trail of personal betrayals, official corruption, and inherited criminal conspiracy.

What I’m Watching and Reading
I picked up a cold on the way home from Brussels, and after an outpatient Watchman procedure on my heart—recovering well—I’ve been taking it easy around the house, reading and streaming shows. I’m now caught up on Bridgerton (who’s your favorite Bridgerton?), The Lincoln Lawyer, The Night Agent, and The Night Manager. I’ve also dipped back into old favorites like The Closer and Nashville (still love the music), both now on Netflix. 56 Days, a twisty psychological thriller adapted from Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel, kept me guessing on Prime Video. Most recently, I watched the first episode of Outlander's final season. I’ve been with the series from the beginning and have read all the main books—though fewer of the Lord John spinoffs—so reaching the end feels bittersweet.
As for reading, 2026 is off to a good start. So far, my favorite is the historical fiction novel The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, about an 18th-century midwife who includes a murder mystery and is based on a real person. This was our February book club pick. I started the year by getting up to date on Annette Dashofy’s Matthias Honeywell series, Keep Your Family Close and No Stone Unturned. I like Matthias’ and Emma’s relationship as well as his relationship with his partner. I read Rhys Bowen’s latest Lady Georgie adventure, From Cradle to Grave. I’ve been with Lady Georgie from the beginning. Looking forward to what Rhys does with the character going into the war years. I enjoyed listening to The President’s Daughter by James Patterson and Bill Clinton and reading another Cork O’Connor story, Copper River, by William Kent Krueger. He describes the setting in each of his books so well.
Here are the books I've read (and listened to) so far this year:
